Oy.
I’ve had quite the week. Even though much of staff was out of the office at an event of ours – meaning it should’ve have been a quiet week – my calendar was still incredibly crowded.
Which means that I really had to put Elizabeth’s words into practice – and that I need to hit the reroute button on my GPS. Reroute! Reroute!
Here’s the bottom line: I’ve lost four pounds, which is great. In fact, I’m going to try to live by example and cut myself a break and take it as a win. I will not focus on the fact that week 4 included a holiday that became a black hole of eating and not exercising.
But I’m back for week four
and I’m proud of myself for that. Elizabeth has recommended a book, The Beck Diet Solution, which is supposed to help me get at the reasons my brain always goes to food as its first stress-reliever of choice. I can feel the trigger nearly flip every day – always at about 3 p.m., when every issue at work seems to find a home on my desk. That said, while I’m not fully ignoring the trigger, I am avoiding the large cookies for sale in the bakery next door. Let’s call that a win, too!
I’m also trying to fit in more exercise. Fitness trainer Liz Neporent, co-author of Thin in 10 and a spokesperson for the American Council on Exercise, best advice for me has been to try to fit 10-minute moments of exercise each day. That’s been harder to do than I first thought. I know, however, that that’s pretty sad. Come on, lady, you can’t find TEN MINUTES to get moving at any one point in the day? Liz sent me her book Thin in 10, which comes with a DVD featuring 10-minute workouts. She suggests just launching into one when you get home – don’t even change clothes!
The book arrived two days ago and I’ve yet to make that happen. Let’s see if I can do it this weekend…
